Ascension Quiet Day

Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him.  And he asked them, ‘Who do the crowds say that I am?’  And they answered, ‘John the Baptist.  But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.’  Then he said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’  And Peter answered, ‘The Christ of God.’

Session 1

Ask Jesus to help you have a prayer life more like his.

What might help you to do everything with prayer?

Some ideas :A rule,  a list of people and needs to pray for, a journal (to write down what you hear God saying,  praying in creation, praying while creating (paint, clay, collage etc), praying a certain times each day, praying through sung worship, liturgical (set prayers), extemporary prayers

What do you need to pray for in particular a decision, a conversation, something that appears impossibly challenging or that you don’t want to do (but need to)?

Session 2

Who do you say that I am? isThe Question.  For Peter his Answer is the Christ of God

Question in Acts is – What then should we do?  Answer in Acts is repent .

The Hebrew notion of repentance is about doing a U-Turn in our lives.  Turn away from the things that make a mess of our lives and those around us and turn to Jesus.   What do we need to stop. what do we need to start. What do we need to change in our lives? Is Jesus the  Lord of all our Lives?  Ask Jesus to show you

The Greek notion of repentance is about changing the way we think (or look at the world) to Jesus’s way. To wear “Kingdom tinted” Glasses. Ask Jesus to help you increasingly see with his perspective. Is there anything he needs to show you now?

Session 3

And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics…”

How might it change our perspective if we thought that we needed nothing else to be sent out, than Jesus? If we thought that we needed nothing else than to be dependent on God.

Who are we sent to proclaim the kingdom to ?

Who are we sent to heal?

Who is God asking us to  pray for, to know his love and peace at this time?
